The Human Design System came as a revelation January 3-11, 1987. It was received whole and in detail by Canadian-born Ra Uru Hu from what he calls a "Voice." After this intense experience of 8 days and nights, Ra thought either he was mad, or the Human Design System was true. After spending three years to test the system, he proved to himself that it was true. Since 1992, he has been teaching Human Design to students from all over the world.

We learned Human Design from Ra. We were introduced to the system by a Swiss friend of ours, and later we hosted Ra in the US. It's been three and a half years that I have been using Human Design and my experience with it has been very exciting and eye-opening.

Happiness has a lot to do with accepting who you are, both your light and its shadows. Acceptance requires knowledge of who you are, without confusion about what is really you and what is conditioned. One of the very basic tenets in Human Design is that most of us live what we are not. Because it is always changing, conditioning affects us and we identify with it more than we do with the fixed, unchanging pattern.

Since the arrival of the Human Design System, we have a wonderfully clear and graphic tool to know who we are as humans in the world. It shows that we each have a unique Design, a basic wiring that determines the way we encounter and understand life. That Design can be seen in an individual Rave chart.

The colored parts of the Body Graph of your chart represent that basic wiring, “burned in” at your birth. It remains the same throughout your life, it doesn't change, is fixed, and therefore you can rely on it. It is the static aspect of your Design, the set of tools you are given to deal with life. No choice.

The moving and changing aspects of your life, on the other hand, are occurring in the white parts of your Design. Here is where you experience, learn, gather knowledge, grow, mature. This is where you're getting influenced and conditioned, where you have to deal with the outside world and have no choice but to make a bunch of choices. And all that is constantly moving, forever changing. You cannot rely on it. However, with the tool of Human Design, you can observe and be aware of it with unprecedented ease and clarity.

Those changing and conditioning influences come from two sides: from people (and also animals, plants, things) you encounter and from the Neutrino stream from the stars, altered by the planets orbiting the Sun. If you know a person's Design, you'll know that wherever there's color in their Design and not in yours, you are being conditioned in their presence, and vice versa. Needless to say that it is a great tool in relationships. With ease you see the electro-magnetic spark, or where you have companionship, or dominance, or have to compromise.

Since the Neutrino stream conditioned by the planets reaches everybody everywhere all the time, the planetary influence is collective. However, depending on the individual Design, everybody experiences that influence differently. To keep track of what the planets do uniquely to you, you need to check their positions at a given time in an ephemeris and see where they are in relation to your Design.

There is much to discover with Human Design. It is an instrument to unveil the mechanics of being and it has the power to ultimately force one into acceptance.

An Overview of Osho

Here you see a Rave chart as it looks for an individual. The birthdata is the basis of the calculation. Astrological information gets indexed into hexagrams (from the I Ching) and then transferred to the corresponding gate in one of the nine centers (from the Chakras). Each gate is half of a channel (from the Kabbalah Tree of Life). When planets activate gates at both ends of the channel, the whole channel is colored in, and then, so are the connecting centers. This is called "Definition" and is the key to Design.

If a center is defined, it is always operating in a fixed way, according to the channel, gates and activating planets. Each Design then shows the centers that are defined, therefore, colored in, and those that aren't defined, and so aren't colored in. When a center is undefined, it means it is open to outside influence. Anyone can penetrate, and the experience is limitless. These are areas where you "go to school" or "can become wise."

Osho has four channels defined. The first is "Acceptance," a design of an organizational being. This is a logical mind, a person who has the details to support his opinions, and someone capable always of speaking from the mind.

The next channel he has is called "Perfected Form" a design for survival. This channel is about the perfected behavior in the moment that ensures survival. However, here he has the line of the Martyr, fixed by the Moon. The martyrdom was built into the Design.

He also has the channel called "Initiation," one of the three potentially mystical channels. It is the Will of the spiritual warrior who leaps into the void, and through innocence can land on his feet (or not). Here is the potential to be initiated. He was an initiator.

The last channel defined is called "Judgment," a design of insatiability. This is the constant need to correct and perfect things, fueled by the energy of aliveness. In this channel Osho had the line "Terminal Disease."

Looking at the other centers without definition also tells very much. The Sacral center is the center for sexuality and fertility. Osho had no gates at all in this center (where he could easily read the sexuality in others, and also, what he taught). The second center with only one activation is called the Solar Plexus. This is the center for emotional energy and also for the potential awareness of the spirit. Here, Osho has only one gate, called "Grace."

This was a center where "he could be wise," teaching his disciples about sex and emotions, and developing meditation techniques specific for unlocking the conditioning and repression. The last center undefined in Osho's Design is called the Head center, center for Inspiration. He has one activation, in the gate called "Inner Truth."

Besides the definitions, there are five types of Designs and two modes. In Osho's Design, he has a mental definition that is split from the other channels. This is called "Split Definition." There are three main "bridges" in this chart. Any analyst who looks at this chart would say "he looks for the Hunter/Huntress (gate 21) for the materializing," meaning for food, clothes, housing, other people do the hunting to his rulership. Another keynote is gate of the "Now," the gate called Contemplation (gate 20), and part of the channel of Penetrating awareness.

The third main bridge is called "Fellowship of Man," (gate 13) keynoted, "the listener," part of the channel of the Prodigal, design of a Witness. I consider this channel to be the channel for the Searcher, that at the end, you discover that which you have sought is yourself, coming home to yourself as a witness.

Human Design is a very good tool for anyone interested in how awareness operates. I feel that Osho "saw" Designs of people in the energy of a person, and guided what he said to any given person by what was specific for their Design. He also maintained that to raise children in a Buddhafield, that these kids would have everything available, rather than being unduly affected by only one or two key people. Human Design says the same thing, that taking care of our auras is the main thing. To raise a child with only one or two major conditioning factors (parents), that child will be limited and defined by the environment.

Ra gives another kind of suggestion. He says people should sleep in their own rooms, that being conditioned when we are unconscious (sleeping) is very powerful, and that when we wake up, we aren't ourselves, but rather half of the pair. This is an interesting device for many couples! To know when someone brings out the best in you or the worst in you, to know how to protect yourself and to take care of your aura, means that you can accept what it is to love yourself. Ultimately, this is the only job, to love ourselves.
